Establishment of the Medical AI Promotion Institute to Realize a World Rich with Diverse Medical AI
— Creating a Future Where Everyone Can Benefit from All Kinds of Medical AI —

We are pleased to announce the establishment of the Medical AI Promotion Institute, Inc. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Director General: Yuki Shimahara; hereinafter “MAPI”). MAPI aims to build one of the world’s largest medical data platforms through open innovation and to contribute to the advancement of the medical AI industry by supporting regulatory compliance and developing cutting-edge systems. Looking ahead, we intend to obtain certification under the Next-Generation Medical Infrastructure Act (1), led by the Cabinet Office, and to establish a new medical-data-centered economic ecosystem that enables the delivery of optimal healthcare tailored to diverse needs.
Furthermore, a portion of the revenue from data utilization will be returned to medical institutions and donated to research and development in rare diseases and pediatrics—areas that tend to be underserved in the current market-driven system—helping to create a world full of diverse medical AI solutions.

Background
Japan holds a vast volume of high-quality medical data; however, its effective utilization remains insufficient. Compared to other countries, Japan lags in AI research and application (2). Key challenges include a lack of know-how and resources for data provision, and the difficulties associated with data preprocessing—such as annotation and quality control—on both the provider and user sides.

MAPI’s Role
MAPI supports both medical data providers and users. By obtaining certification as a business operator under the Next-Generation Medical Infrastructure Act, we aim to accelerate the effective use of medical data. We will also tackle challenges related to data standardization, acquisition, and processing, while providing smooth data transmission and regulatory support. By incorporating advanced medical AI technologies from Japan and abroad, we seek to improve patient satisfaction and healthcare efficiency through data-driven solutions.

Key Service Strengths
(1) Expertise in Medical Imaging Data
Our team possesses deep expertise and access to valuable medical imaging data, supporting meaningful data utilization for both providers and users.

(2) Multidisciplinary Experts
Our organization brings together professionals in medical AI R&D, product development, regulatory compliance, and post-market support, offering comprehensive one-stop solutions.

(3) End-to-End Service Provision
By handling everything from data collection to delivery in-house, we ensure rapid and seamless service delivery.

Giving Back to Society and the Public
The effective use of medical data must be underpinned by public understanding and trust. MAPI is committed to engaging in dialogue with government agencies, academic societies, and other stakeholders to promote safe and meaningful data utilization. Additionally, we will return a portion of data-related revenue to medical institutions to indirectly support patients. Furthermore, 1% of our data-related revenue will be donated to research and development in medical AI for rare diseases and other underserved areas, thus giving back to the public.

Future Outlook
MAPI aims to become a certified operator under the Next-Generation Medical Infrastructure Act and to manage over 30 million medical imaging records on its proprietary platform by 2030, supporting the creation and enhancement of over 300 medical AI solutions.
