Medical AI Promotion Institute, Inc. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Director General: Yuki Shimabara; hereinafter “MAPI”) and MNES Inc. (Head Office: Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture; President & CEO: Shinichi Abe; hereinafter “MNES”) are pleased to announce their strategic business partnership in the field of medical data processing and distribution. This collaboration aims to accelerate the effective utilization of medical data in Japan, contributing to a future where advanced medical AI supports the delivery of optimal care to patients.

Background
While Japan possesses a vast amount of high-quality medical data, its utilization remains underdeveloped, and the country lags behind others in AI research and application (1). Key challenges include a lack of expertise and resources for data provision, and difficulties in data processing (such as annotation and quality adjustment), presenting major hurdles for both data providers and users.

MAPI, with its team of medical AI experts, excels in anonymizing and managing medical data, supporting both data providers and users. Meanwhile, MNES offers remote diagnostic support services for medical and health screening institutions, along with “LOOKREC”—a cloud-based medical support platform that facilitates the management, sharing, and integration of medical imaging data (such as X-rays, CT, MRI, fundus photography, and pathology images) and AI solutions.

Through this partnership, MAPI will leverage MNES’s cloud-based imaging platform to eliminate the need for medical institutions to install their own server systems for data anonymization and pseudonymization. This will significantly reduce the burden on data providers and enable safer, more streamlined data handling. By addressing the challenges faced by both data providers and users, the partnership will promote more efficient utilization of medical data. In addition, MNES’s advanced cloud technology will enable the delivery of high-quality data to AI developers and vendors.
Future Outlook
Beyond data management, MAPI and MNES will work together to jointly develop AI-based search technologies for medical data. This initiative will support the development of diverse medical AI solutions and contribute to a future where patients receive the best possible care.
