Medical AI Promotion Institute(MAPI) and Osaka Metropolitan University Launch Joint Research on AI-Driven Next-Generation Medical Database
— Developing Anonymization Technologies to Build a Secure, User-Friendly, and Searchable Medical Database —

Medical AI Promotion Institute, Inc. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Director General: Yuki Shimahara; hereinafter “MAPI”) and Osaka Metropolitan University (Location: Osaka, Japan; President: Masahiro Tatsumisago; hereinafter “Osaka Metropolitan University”) have commenced joint research aimed at building an advanced medical database that leverages AI to provide high levels of security, usability, and searchability.
Through this collaborative research, the two institutions aim to establish a foundational system that facilitates the safe and efficient utilization of medical data, contributing to the advancement of medical AI and the realization of a future in which patients receive optimal care.

Background
Japan possesses a vast volume of high-quality medical data; however, the effective utilization of this data remains insufficient. One major challenge lies in the underdevelopment of infrastructure to properly harness medical data. Specifically, issues such as data standardization, secure data management, and anonymization of imaging data such as CT and MRI must be addressed urgently.

Overview of the Joint Research
MAPI, with its expertise in medical AI, excels in the processing and management of medical data, supporting both providers and users of such data.
This joint research will be conducted in collaboration with Dr. Daiju Ueda, Deputy Director of the Center for Health Science Innovation at Osaka Metropolitan University, a leading figure in medical AI research and development.
The project aims to solve key challenges in medical database construction and to develop a new data platform that enables the secure management and utilization of medical data.

Key Areas of Research
・Collection and organization of existing data to serve as the database foundation
・Development of anonymization techniques using image processing technologies
・Optimization and lightweight processing of structured information and search models
・Integration of anonymization, lightweight processing, and search features into a unified database
・Verification and evaluation of the constructed database

Future Outlook
This research will evolve existing medical data into a next-generation database with enhanced safety, usability, and searchability. This will empower medical institutions with a more accessible and practical data infrastructure, thereby accelerating the advancement of medical AI.
MAPI will continue to lead efforts in the appropriate management and utilization of medical data, working toward a future where diverse, high-quality medical AI solutions thrive.
